Eric P. Salonen, an international trade lawyer who had been a partner with the Washington law firm of Stewart and Stewart, died Feb. 26 at Georgetown University Hospital. He was 55.
The cause was multiple organ failure, said his wife, Lisa Bobbie Schreiber Hughes, a former ambassador to Suriname.
Before joining Stewart and Stewart in 1998, Mr. Salonen served as attorney-adviser to Commissioner Janet A. Nuzum and Chairman Marcia E. Miller of the U.S. International Trade Commission.
Mr. Salonen wrote and co-wrote articles on U.S. trade remedy laws and co-chaired an international trade committee of the American Bar Association.
Eric Peter Salonen was born in Newark, N.J., and raised in West Orange, N.J. He was a 1981 graduate of Georgetown University's foreign service school and a 1984 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania law school. He was a District resident.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Lisa Bobbie Schreiber Hughes of Washington; two stepsisters, Irmeli "Tipi" Kuehnel of Annapolis and Mervi Agnew of San Marcos, Calif.
