Women with a background in trade industries can support international trade in the Triangle by joining the newly formed local chapter of theOrganization of Women in International Trade.
The organization's Greater Triangle chapter will launch Wednesday, with remarks from N.C. Secretary of Commerce Sharon Decker.
Members of the chapter, which can include men, have access to career development, local networking and access to an international database of women around the globe involved in international trade.
International trade accounts for 22 percent of North Carolina’s jobs. Trade between the Research Triangle Park and Canada and Mexico amounts to $2.5 billion a year, according to the Brookings Institution Metropolitan Policy Program. North Carolina exports more than $30 billion in goods and services, and trade supports more than one in five jobs in the state.
