Chittagong's railway links with the rest of the country has snapped after 4 carriages of a cargo train derailed at Feni.
The Dhaka-bound train, carrying containers, was coming from the port city. The carriages veered off the tracks around 2:30am on Thursday near Fazilpur Railway Station, snapping rail services on Dhaka-Chittagong and Chittagong-Sylhet routes since then.
A rescue train arrived there from Comilla's Laksam Railway Junction in the morning and have already started to salvage the derailed carriages. The official said trains on this route presumably will not resume until noon, said Fazilpur Station Master Rakhal Chandra.
The derailment has left Dhaka-bound Mahanagar Prabhati and Subarna Express, Chittagong-bound Turna Nishitha, Dhaka Mail, Meghna Express and a DEMU train stranded at different stations in different districts.
