The Union Railway Minister, D. V. Sadananda Gowda, said, the Railways plans to develop a Mangalore-Chennai freight corridor through Bengaluru and Hassan to connect the west coast-east coast ports which would help the smooth transportation of coal for power generation.
Speaking to media persons here, the Minister disclosed, "I plan a Mangalore-Chennai freight corridor for west coast-east coast port connectivity via Bengaluru and Hassan in the state. We have to work out the details with the state government and the Union Surface Transport and Shipping Ministry."
He had discussed the issue at a recent meeting with Railways officials and former Railway Ministers, he said.
