LIMMATTALBAHN has issued a call for tender for contracts to manage the tendering and realisation of the civil works and railway technology elements of a SFr 715m ($US 797) project to build a 13.4km light rail line in the Limmat Valley of the Zurich area.
The closing date for bids is September 16. Planning for the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2015 to allow construction to begin in 2017. The line is expected to open at the end of 2019.
The metre-gauge line with 27 stations will run from Zurich Altstetten to Killwangen-Spreitenbach, and 92% of the route will be on dedicated rights-of-way. It will be electrified partly at 600V dc and partly at 1.2kV dc. LRVs will operate at 15-minute intervals and an end-to-end journey time of 37 minutes is envisaged.
