Only 45 percent of vehicles on Saudi Arabia's roads are insured, according to a report by Arab News.
An official with the Najm Company, which deals with road accident cases in the country on behalf of the Traffic Department, said that every vehicle on the road needs to be insured in order to protect the rights of everyone.
According to the Arab News report, the reason for the rise in uninsured vehicles is a four-fold rise in premiums. Participants at a workshop held by the transport committee of the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that the increase could not be justified, and that the lack of insurance has resulted in legal problems at accident scenes in the country.
