Part of Mannheim Road is closed Tuesday afternoon as crews investigate a Union Pacific freight train derailment in west suburban Melrose Park.
Railroad spokesman Mark Davis said, the derailment happened about 2 p.m. in the Union Pacific rail yard near Mannheim Road and Lake Street as train cars were being moved within the yard.
Davis said that 3 train cars carrying vehicles came off the rails, but are still upright.
Davis said that One of the cars is leaning against a support beam for the Mannheim Road overpass, prompting officials to close a portion of the roadway until Illinois Department of Transportation inspectors can look it over. No one was hurt in the incident.
