People living around Purania crossing in Aliganj may finally get to breathe a sigh of relief as the construction of the much awaited Purania railway overbridge (ROB) will be complete in a week.
The flyover would be open for the public after April 15, said the UP State Bridge Corporation (UPSBC), the agency appointed by the state government for the ROB's construction.
The Purania ROB was an extensive infrastructure project launched alongside the Daliganj ROB project around September 2012.
Since the construction of both started at the same time, people living in between these two projects on Sitapur Road faced many difficulties as their way towards Aliganj, Kapoorthala and IT crossing was blocked from both sides.
Even people living in adjoining areas like Keshav Nagar, Triveni Nagar, Daliganj, Niralanagar and Aliganj had to face daily traffic snarls, road congestions, encroachments and pollution arising from the construction.
While the agency was able to handover the Daliganj ROB in a record time of nine months, the Purania ROB was completed in 18 months due to delay in approval from railways and also the project's huge size (around 812 metre long).
The ROB will be a four-lane flyover of 15 metres width as compared to Daliganj's two-lane ROB of 7.5 metres.
The state government has spent INR 61 crore on this project to ease out the problems of daily commuters in the area.
