Eurovia (UK) donates to Brake to show support for road safety work

As part of its ongoing commitment to Brake, the road safety charity, Eurovia (UK) has recently made a further donation of €5,270 (£4,401).  For every health, safety and environmental near miss reported on an annual basis, we donate £1 to the charity.

Richard Coteau, senior corporate fundraiser of Brake, was presented with the cheque by Dave Campbell, Eurovia health, safety and environment director on 6 March 2014 at the worksite of the £10 million A57 Worksop/Sheffield improvement scheme near Rotherham following a brief tour around the site with other Eurovia representatives, including local corporate responsibility champion Judith Hampson.

Owned by Eurovia (Contracting North), the site was specifically chosen for the cheque presentation as they had the most near miss reports last year - at 751.

Campbell said, "Near miss reporting is the vital tool that helps us drive down the number of actual safety incidents in our business. By increasing awareness of the near miss reporting tool and delivering more training alongside safety briefings, employees are always encouraged to report near misses which contribute to improving safety in the workplace."

Of Brake's work with Eurovia (UK), Coteau said, "Our partnership with Eurovia began in 2008, and since then Eurovia has donated over £18,000 to Brake which we are very grateful for. As a charity, we rely on donations from individuals and organisations. We are grateful for Eurovia's contribution which will all help towards our aim of reducing crashes on the roads."

In 2013, a total of 4,401 near misses were reported within Eurovia which is an increase of 72% from 2012.
