South Eastern Railway (SER) loaded 121.71 million tonnes (mt) of freight During the period from April 2013 to February 2014 as against 113.26 mt loaded in same period last year, thus registering a 7.46% growth. The performance of SER has been more remarkable because it has loaded 4.37 mt more than the Railway Board's laid down aim till February, 2014 which is an increase of 3.72%.
The loading of the main commodity namely, iron ore touched 67.66 mt during the period under review, showing a growth of 10.02%. as against 61.50 mt during the April 2012-February 2013. SER has also recorded a positive growth in loading of Coal, other raw materials to Steel Plant, Pig Iron & Finished Steel, Cement, Food Grains, Fertilizers and petroleum and oil products.
Earnings from freight traffic recorded a growth of 15.76% during the first eleven months of the current financial year in comparison to the corresponding period of last year. During April 2013 to February 2014, SER generated earnings of INR 9093.28 crore from freight traffic as against INR 7855.45 crore earned from freight sector during the same period of last year.
