NYK Logistics (UK) has today been presented with the award for Environmental Best Practice & Sustainable Development at the annual Green Apple Awards held at the Houses of Parliament.
The aim of the Green Apple Awards is to "recognise, reward and promote environmental best practice around the world." Recognised internationally, the awards are hosted by the Green Organisation, a non-profit environment group.
Examples of the many schemes and innovations cited by NYK in its award submission include:
-Launching its own Environmental Awards as well as other staff motivational projects -Running training workshops that provide energy efficiency tips and awareness -Reducing utility consumption by improving usage-monitoring systems -Reducing fuel consumption through vehicle planning and driver incentives -Reducing waste by limiting transit-only packaging and extending equipment lifespan where possible -Working with a local university to investigate the potential use of algae as an alternative fuel source for the company's heavy-goods fleet.
Ian Veitch, CEO, NYK Logistics (UK) commented: "We are absolutely delighted to win this award. From raising staff awareness to developing new fuel sources, our environmental initiatives are enormously varied and require large reserves of ingenuity and hard work. Being recognised with an accolade such as this is both satisfying and encouraging as we continue to improve our performance going forward."
The Green Apple Environmental Best Practice award follows NYK's attainment of the Environment Award at the UK Warehouse Association's (UKWA) annual Awards for Warehousing in July. |
