Horizon Lines wins women's club award for courage during sea rescue

2008-5-7

US Domestic ocean carrier Horizon Lines has received the 2008 Mary Patten Valiant Ship Award from the Women's Propeller Club of the United States for courage at sea, reports the Maritime Global Net Newsletter.

The award recognises the "courageous action and extraordinary seamanship" of the Horizon Falcon's officers and crew in the rescue of two seamen from Panamanian ship Hai Tong No 7 after it sank in a typhoon 300 nautical miles northwest of Guam last July.

"I am extremely proud of the 'fortitudinous' acts of our officers and crew, under very difficult circumstances, to provide assistance to distressed seamen throughout that arduous day," said the ship's captain, Tom McDorr.
