Gatwick has shortest queues

2008-6-11

Passengers have rated Gatwick Airport as the best out of the busiest 10 airports in Europe for waiting times at security. This result is part of the largest and most reputable survey of passengers in the world, which carried out every quarter by the global trade body Airports Council International (ACI).

ACI's passenger survey is translated into a number of different languages to enable feedback from around the world. Passengers are asked to score airports in 35 different categories, in a range of different service factors. Gatwick benchmarks its operations against the 10 busiest airports in Europe - Schiphol in Amsterdam, Paris Charles De Gaulle and Paris Orly, Copenhagen, Madrid, Rome, Frankfurt, Manchester, and Heathrow.

Andy Flower, Managing Director BAA Gatwick said: 'It is a testament to the dedication and commitment of our staff at Gatwick that has resulted in this excellent feedback from passengers. This time last year Gatwick came 7th out of 10 for security queue times, so to be voted top today is a real achievement.'

A spokesman for the airport said that 35 million passengers a year travel through Gatwick, and in the last twelve months an additional 650 security staff have been employed by the airport, plus an extra 7 security lanes have been opened.
