Container Transportation Between China and Russia

2007-12-20

18 December 2007--The rate for the transportation of 40ft container from Beijing to Moscow varies between $6.6 th. and $7.6 th., this data was reported by the chief representative of the Eurosib company in China Eduard Konovalov at the Russian Day conference in Shanghai.

There are 3 basic routes:by land (by the railroad via Zabaikalsk) and two combined routes (rail-water-rail)-through Vostochny port and then by Transsib and by Southern shipping route to Hamburg.

The rime of transportation via Zabaikalsk totals 25-28 days, 30-40 days through Vostochny port and 45-60 through Hamburg port.

Each route has its bottlenecks. Thus, these are limited capacity in Zabaykalsk, for the combined these are overbooking of lines and the scarcity of platforms in Vostochny port.
