Less-than-truckload freight transportation services provider Con-way Freight said this week it is boosting its capacity in Northern Illinois by building two new facilities in LaSalle and Cherry Valley.
In LaSalle, Con-way broke ground this week on a 220-door Freight Assembly Center, and in Cherry Valley it is building a 110-door local operating location.
Con-way said in a statement that these new facilities represent a local investment of more than $27.5 million and explained that the impetus for these locations is due to expansion as growing freight volumes were surpassing capacity at its current locations.
"This is a key area for our operations because of its central location in our network," said Bruce Moss, Con-way vice president of central division operations, in a statement. "We' re pleased to contribute to the economic development and expansion of these communities through these investments, as well as the enhanced service opportunities that will be enabled by these new facilities."
The Con-way statement added that the LaSalle facility will provide two important functions for the company. During the day, it will serve as the local operating location for more than 250 businesses in the Greater LaSalle area, providing pick up and delivery of shipments, and tt night, it will function as one of Con-way's largest FACs in the country, processing more than 60 million pounds of freight annually.
Con-way noted that the LaSalle FAC serves as a strategic central re-ship location where trucks arrive nightly from cities in 10 states across the Midwest. At the center, over a period of hours, over one thousand heavy-freight shipments are processed, trucks are reloaded and then dispatched back to their home cities providing next-day service. LaSalle becomes the 80th FAC in the Con-way Freight network, said Con-way. |
