E-freight flies for the first time

2007-11-6

AIR France Cargo-KLM Cargo has launched the first e-freight shipments on its network from Schiphol, as part of an e-freight pilot between Hong Kong, Canada, Singapore, The Netherlands and the UK.

The scheme has taken 10 months of preparation with IATA, customs, governmental authorities, handling agents, airlines and the participating forwarders in The Netherlands: DHL, Schenker, Panalpina and Road Air of the TMI Group.

¡°E-freight is a major step forward in the airfreight industry. It improves transparency and consistency throughout the supply chain. Stimulating process innovation and implementing new technology is part of AF-KL Cargo¡¯s key priorities. At AF-KL Cargo, we are very proud to be the leading airline participating in this worldwide development that enables paper free import, export and transit of airfreight,¡± said Michael Wisbrun, executive vice-president Air France Cargo-KLM Cargo.

Wisbrun invited Aleksander Popovich, global head of cargo from IATA and all participants in this pilot at Schiphol, to celebrate this historic moment.
