NATO chief in U.S. to discuss Afghanistan with Bush
POSTED: 1:41 p.m. EDT, May 21,2007
NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer arrived in Crawford, Texas, U.S. President George W.Bush's ranch, on Sunday for discussions with Bush on Afghanistan, NATO expansion and other issues, U.S. media reported.

Bush will have a working dinner with the NATO chief, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Defense Secretary Robert Gates will join them and further talks will be held on Monday.

Bush is expected to seek troops reinforcements from NATO allies in Afghanistan amid a resurgent Taliban. Moreover, issues including the Kosovo status, NATO expansion and U.S. efforts to deploy missile defense shied in Eastern Europe are also expected on the agenda.

The United States has urged NATO allies to commit more troops and equipment to the fighting in Afghanistan against Taliban's spring offensive. However, NATO countries have hesitated because of rising casualties in the country.

There are about 37,000 NATO-led troops in Afghanistan, including some 15,000 U.S. troops in the country.
