POSTED: 9:37 a.m. EDT, April 13,2007

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with Japanese Emperor Akihito at the Imperial Palace on Thursday.

The two reviewed the development of Sino-Japanese relations and agreed that the harmonious co-existence of the two peoples is conducive to the two countries, Asia and the world as a whole.

Both sides voiced the hope that the two countries will make joint efforts to realize the goal of peaceful co-existence, long-lasting friendship, mutually beneficial cooperation and common development.

Wen arrived here on Wednesday for a three-day official visit, the first by a Chinese premier in seven years.
