U.S. Congress authorizes aid to Abbas
POSTED: 10:54 a.m. EDT, April 11,2007
The U.S. Congress has authorized nearly 60 million dollars in aid to the security forces loyal to Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas, U.S. media reported Tuesday.

The Bush administration has vowed to help strengthen the security forces of Abbas, a moderate leader recognized by the U.S.-led West.

Meanwhile, the United States has vowed not to deal with the Hamas-led Palestinian government until the radical Islamic group renounces violence and recognizes the existence of Israel.

Moreover, the Bush administration has suspended direct aid and contacts with the Hamas-led Palestinian government.
