Head of research and technology at Airbus, Axel Krein, says: "We will not only reinforce Europe's industrial leadership and future competitiveness, but together with our partners we will also help to enhance the sustainability and efficiency of commercial aviation."
Airbus' contributions to CS2 will focus on three areas. Advanced engine and aircraft configurations will be used to to test more fuel efficient propulsion concepts.
Cabin, system and structure research will target architecture and fuselage structures. Test rigs and component demonstrators will also be part of this.
Electrical aircraft systems, flight decks and avionics, will develop technology to reduce pilot workload, enhance navigation and improve communications. Flight testing will be carried out for cockpit development.
