China Southern Airlines has joined the air freight quality initiative Cargo 2000, becoming the first carrier on the mainland to become a full member and the programme's 19th active airline, according to Shipping Gazette.
The carrier received the Cargo 2000 (C2K) Quality Certification from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
Cargo 2000 is the air freight industry's only significant neutral platform for standardising, measuring and improving its operational procedures, processes and performance levels.
It consists of a group of 88 major airlines, freight forwarders, ground handlers, trucking companies and IT providers, said China Southern Cargo director of service quality You Antao.
"By applying C2K measurement of milestones and alert-setting procedures during the shipment's transport, we can achieve much more transparency and visibility of our air cargo service for customers," he said.
Mr You said it could also substantially reduce the time costs of managing irregularities and service failures.
The cargo airline operates a fleet of eight Boeing 777-200 freighters, linking Shanghai and Guangzhou, via Qingdao or Chongqing, with Amsterdam, Vienna, Frankfurt, Los Angeles, Chicago and Vancouver.
