Singapore's Changi Airport Group (CAG) has announced the launch of a new service, ANA Cargo's inaugural flight from Okinawa, Japan, that will operate six times weekly on the Okinawa-Singapore-Tokyo Narita route, using Boeing 767-300F aircraft, according to Shipping Gazette.
With strong demand for fresh and high-quality Japanese food products, this new service aims to widen distribution channels for these products to Singapore and its neighbouring markets, a statement from airport authorities said.
This comes as the cargo airline has been increasing its flight frequency and upgrading its aircraft to ramp up operations at Changi Airport. The airline also relocated its Asia cargo office from Hong Kong to Singapore to serve its networks across Southeast Asia and South Asia.
In 2013 cargo carried by ANA Cargo to and from Singapore grew 53 per cent compared to a year ago.
"Earlier this year, CAG also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Okinawa Prefectural Government to promote tourism, trade exchange and strengthen the aviation network between Okinawa and Singapore," said CAG assistant vice president for cargo and logistics development James Fong.
