February traffic was 1.8 per cent higher than the same month last year. A total of 1,641,767 passengers travelled through Oslo Airport during the main winter holiday month.
"The growth rate is lower than the previous month and we believe it’s due to the Olympics,” says Managing Director Nic. Nilsen.
Greatest emphasis on international routes
Market demand for domestic and international routes continues to hold strong. International traffic increased by 2.8 per cent, while domestic traffic grew 0.7 per cent. Trondheim is still the biggest route, with 146,973 passengers, up 1 per cent from 2013, while Bergen (133,890 passengers) and Stavanger (116,772 passengers) follow close behind.
"These routes have stable traffic and steady growth. The route between Oslo and Trondheim is one of the busiest in Europe,” says Nilsen.
As in January, Stockholm was the percentage winner again this month. A total of 97,767 passengers flew between Oslo and the Swedish capital, up 7 per cent from the same month last year. This route is now approaching the traffic to the Danish capital: 103,070 flew between Oslo and Copenhagen in February, an increase of 2 per cent.
Decline in charter traffic
Traditional charter traffic shows a decline in February and the year's figures show a significant decrease compared with last year. A total of 63,814 passengers travelled abroad by charter flights this year, down 25.1 per cent compared with last year.
