The first six months of its 2010/2011 financial year saw Dubai-based carrier Emirates increase profits by 350%, year on year, thanks to strong customer demand.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman and CEO of Emirates Airline and Group said: "The results for the first half of the year, to 30 September, are incredibly robust."
"We continue to invest our profits in growing the business, and our healthy financial position enables us to successfuly meet all of our financial commitments and raise financing for future aircraft deliveries."
The carrier ordered 62 new aircraft in its first half.
Air freight divison Emirates SkyCargo has launched three new freighter services to Almaty and Bagram since April and this week announced a new service to Sao Paulo, Brazil. A B747-400F, with a capacity of 117 tonnes, will operate weekly between Dubai and Viracopos-Campinas International Airport .
Ram Menen, Emirates' Divisional Senior VP for Cargo, said: "Brazil is a major force in food production - exporting items such as meat, fruit, sugar, coffee and dairy products - so strengthening our commitment to Sao Paulo with the introduction of the worldĄŻs most advanced long-range freighter was an easy decision to make."
Emirates has been operating a passenger service to Sao Paulo Guarulhos International Airport, with a weekly cargo capacity of 105 tonnes, since 2007. The new freighter service will operate via Frankfurt, Germany, on the outbound journey and return through Dakar, Senegal.
