EasyJet and CFM International celebrated delivery of the airline's first A319 aircraft powered by CFM56-5B Tech Insertion engines. The delivery is part of the budget airline's ambition to be recognised as one of the world's most environmentally-efficient. The new engines will reduce NOx (mono-nitrogen oxides) emissions by 25% and bring considerable progress in terms of CO2 emissions, fuel consumption and maintenance costs, it said in a statement.
CFM56 engines are a product of CFM International (CFM), a 50/50 joint company between Snecma (SAFRAN Group) and General Electric Company. easyJet has been a CFM operator since 1995. In 1997, the airline ordered 12 CFM56-3-powered Boeing 737s. One year later, easyJet expanded its fleet with an order for 15 CFM56-7B-powered Boeing 737-700s and 17 additional ones in 2000. The airline made one of the largest ever single aircraft orders when it selected the CFM56-5B to power 120 Airbus A319 aircraft. |
