In response to the increased demand from customers, Emirates SkyCargo has launched a weekly dedicated freighter service from Bahrain to Dubai. The new A310-300F service, coupled with the belly capacity available on 21 flights in each direction, means shippers can now have in excess of 350 tonnes from Bahrain to Dubai each week on Emirates aircraft. Facilitated by a well-established Open Skies Policy, non-oil trade between the two nations grew to more than $500 million in 2006, making the UAE one of Bahrain's top trading partners.
Hiran Perera, Emirates Senior Vice-President Freighters, said: "By deploying a freighter on this route, Emirates SkyCargo has provided our Bahraini customers with even better connections to Dubai and beyond. "The launch of the freighter service is well-timed, coming shortly after Emirates introduced new services to Toronto, Houston and Sao Paulo in the Americas, as well as Newcastle, UK and Ahmedabad, India."
Main cargoes on the new freighter route are spares, personal effects and horses. "Emirates SkyCargo has a long, distinguished history of transporting horses," noted Perera. "We do everything - both in the air and on ground - to ensure their safety and comfort, including employing highly trained staff to tend them and providing specially designed horse stalls in which they travel."
