In 2006, the total revenue of China's digital publishing industry exceeded 20 billion Yuan. This is an indication that the application and expansion of digitalization has become a necessity, as well as an economic growth point, for the development of the Chinese news publishing industry, according to Chang Sunshou, vice superintendent of the General Administration of Press and Publication of China.
Looking at rather incomplete statistics, of the 20 billion Yuan of total revenue, network advertisement accounts for 4.9 billion Yuan; internet periodicals 500 million Yuan; electronic books 150 million Yuan; internet games 6.5 billion Yuan; and cell phone customized back tones, ring tones, games, and animations account for 8 billion Yuan.
