Sales of automaker FAW rises 25.2 percent in first quarter

China FAW Group Corporation, a leading automaker in the country, sold 327,600 vehicles in the first quarter, up 25.2 percent year on year, the Shanghai Securities News reported on Monday.

Sales of sedans rose 30.5 percent to 256,000 units and sales of heavy-duty trucks jumped 180 percent to 11,484 units, said FAW sources.

Sales from the FAW Volkswagen Automotive Company Ltd. rose 56.3 percent during the first three months.

Based in Changchun, capital of northeast China's Jilin Province, FAW has set up joint ventures with the Volkswagen, Toyota and Mazda. The company produces light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks, cars, buses and mini-vehicles.

The company obtained gross profits of 361.82 million yuan last year, up 6.01 percent over the previous year, according to an announcement made by the company on March 16. Its net profits totaled 347.39 million yuan, up 2.89 percent.
