Zhejiang, a booming province in east China, notched up 139 billion U.S. dollars in foreign trade last year, year-on-year growth of 30 percent.
Wang Jie, deputy director of the Zhejiang Provincial Statistics Bureau, said on Tuesday that this is the first time the province has broken the 100 billion dollar mark for foreign trade. Zhejiang now ranks first among China's 10 major coastal provinces and municipalities ahead of Guangdong, Shandong and Shanghai.
The province's exports grew 31 percent to 101 billion dollars, and imports surged 25 percent to 38 billion dollars, Wang said
In 2006, Zhejiang exported 42 billion dollars worth of mechanical and electrical products and 10 billion dollars worth of new- and high-tech products.
The province gained double-digit growth in its trade with the European Union(EU), the United States and Japan. The EU is Zhejiang's largest partner with bilateral trade volume going up 25 percent year-on-year.
