The value of domestic exports classified in the consumer electrical and electronic products industry rose 31.2 percent in 2006 to 23.3 billion HK dollars (2.99 billion U.S. dollars), Hong Kong's Census & Statistics Department said Tuesday.
The value of domestic exports classified in the machinery, equipment, apparatus, parts and components industry fell 24.3 percent, to 16.3 billion HK dollars (2.09 billion U.S. dollars), while that in the apparel industry fell 7.8 percent, to 21.8 billion HK dollars (2.79 billion U.S. dollars), and that in the textiles industry dropped 7.3 percent, to 34.6 billion HK dollars (4.44 billion U.S. dollars).
The value of these four major industries together accounted for 72 percent of Hong Kong's total domestic exports.
As for other manufacturing industries, a notable increase was registered for the value of domestic exports classified to the basic metals and fabricated metal products industry, by 26 percent over a year earlier, to 6.5 billion HK dollars (833.3 million U.S.dollars), and that in the chemicals and chemical products industry by 14.3 percent, to 9.2 billion HK dollars (1.18 billion U.S. dollars).
