China’s largest longitudinal railway container logistics center, the Kunming Railway Container Logistics Center, has been completed. The project, started July 20, 2004, was undertaken by Xi’an Railway Engineering Co which is part of China Railway Electrification Bureau Group.

The total investment was nearly RMB500 million (US$63 million) and the center covers an area of 800,000 square meters. It will allow longitudinal transport of containers which adds efficiency and speed to the loading and unloading of containers.

The picture is not of that. It is of a splendid steam train hammering its way across difficult country from Chengdu to Kunming. As you may have gathered, I am quite enamored of steam trains and mourn their passing.
