Bangladesh's export earnings in March this year crossed 1 billion U.S. dollars mark, representing a rise by 13.4 percent over the earnings in the same month last year, The Financial Express reported Monday.
Besides, export earnings during the first nine months of fiscal 2006-07 (July 2006-June 2007) witnessed a significant boost with 9. 04 billion dollars against the overall yearly target of 12.5 billion dollars.
The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), in its export performance review released here Sunday, pointed out that the volume-wise exports had surged by 19.59 percent while the price index increased by only 0.62 percent during the period.
It said, woven garments exports stood at 3.51 billion dollars during the first nine months of the current fiscal, recording an increase by 18.24 percent over the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.
The knitwear exports shot up to 3.34 billion dollars during the same period, scoring a rise by 24.31 percent over the amount earned during the same period in the previous fiscal, it said.
According to the EPB review, the United States was the major destination of Bangladeshi goods with 28.81 percent of the total exports worth 2.6 billion dollars during the current fiscal's first nine months.
The next major destination of Bangladeshi goods was Germany, fetching 1.47 billion dollars with a 16.23 percent rise over the exports during the corresponding period.
Britain was the third largest destination of Bangladeshi products that brought 860.21 million dollars as export earnings with a 9.52 percent increase over the exports during the same period.
