Average daily output of the Dutch manufacturing industry rose by 6 percent in March compared with a year ago, equaling the highest manufacturing output growth rate since May 2000, Statistics Netherlands (CBS) said Wednesday.
The highest figure was first recorded in February 2007, the statistical agency said.
Production was higher in all sectors of the manufacturing industry compared to March 2006, with the metal industry leading with an 8 percent increase. The rise in the output of textiles was also well above the average for the whole industry.
Meanwhile, Dutch manufacturing turnover grew by 6 percent in March from a year ago. The figure was a bit lower than those of January and February.
In the first quarter of 2007, turnover rose by an average of 8 percent compared to the same period last year, the CBS said.
Just as in the preceding months, better sales largely accounted for the higher turnover. Selling prices were about 2 percent higher than one year ago.
Turnover increased in all branches of industry, with the metal industry again taking the lead with 12 percent of growth. Turnover of basic metals and manufactured metal products has been increasing by double digits for seven months running. Wood and building materials also witnessed a substantial turnover increase.
