The Guangdong Trade Union has announced that the management of McDonalds has promised that they will complete the work necessary to form a labor union in the first half of the year. They have also agreed to fund the labor union.
Kong Xianghong, the vice-president of the Guangdong Trade Union, said his organization has already sent a representative to speak to and instruct McDonalds and KFC, and to establish a Preparatory Committee for the Labor Union.
McDonalds, KFC and Pizza Hut have recently been accused of breeching the labor laws governing part-time employees in Guangdong province, paying them less than the minimum wage.
Since the problem was first exposed, Guangdong labor authorities have been investigating the employment practices of various enterprises, including McDonalds, KFC and Pizza Hut. No updates have been made available.
