RoadLink USA acquired by Fenway Partners
POSTED: 11:50 a.m. EDT, January 17,2007

Fenway Partners , a New York-based private equity firm, announced this week it has acquired RoadLink USA , an intermodal trucking and logistics services provider located in Jacksonville, Fla.

This deal marks Fenway¡¯s fourteenth acquisition in the transportation and logistics sectors since 2000. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Under the terms of the acquisition, Fenway will partner with RoadLink¡¯s senior management team and officially acquire the company.

Marc Kramer, managing director of Fenway Partners, told Logistics Management there were various factors that made RoadLink-with its network of 50 service locations and 1,500 truck capacity, an attractive investment opportunity. RoadLink¡¯s primary service offerings are: domestic intermodal trucking, international intermodal trucking, container terminal and lift operation services, regional truckload and logistics services, and warehousing and transloading.

One of these factors, according to Kramer, is that intermodal trucking is a fast growing and attractive area with strong secular trends in globalization and offshoring, which he said will drive container traffic for many years to come. And he added that as an independent player in the intermodal transportation sector, RoadLink has a truly national footprint.

Kramer added that he expects RoadLink¡¯s service levels to improve under new ownership.

¡°We will continue to offer our core intermodal trucking services and look forward to working with our customers to fill all of their ancillary needs,¡± said Kramer. ¡°Transloading and container yard management are two areas that come to mind as natural additions to our current offering.¡±

As for RoadLink¡¯s customer base, which is largely comprised of shippers, ocean container ship lines, intermodal marketing companies, transportation logistics firms, and railroads, Kramer said he does not expect them to be affected by this acquisition.

¡°[RoadLink customers] will not be affected at all by this acquisition,¡± said Kramer. ¡°Our message to our shipping clients is that it is business as usual. The company and its employees are energized and eager to continue working closely with all of our customers to continue providing industry-leading service as we expand our footprint and infrastructure.¡±

Looking to the future, Kramer noted that RoadLink is in good shape, with its national scale, strong technology platform and high service levels. And these attributes, he said, position the company to remain a major intermodal transportation service provider. Now that the acquisition is complete Kramer said the new management team will to focus its energy on accelerating the build-out of RoadLink¡¯s technology platform, improving the quality and consistency service across all its operating regions and pursuing acquisitions that will expand its footprint and allow the company to better serve both local and national customers.

"We are very pleased to join with Fenway Partners and its team of investment professionals,¡± said Ronald Sorrow, Chief Executive Officer, RoadLink USA, in a press release. ¡°With Fenway as our partner, we are now well-positioned to accelerate the growth of the company's truck capacity and quickly begin expanding our service network and operations on a much broader scale."
