Emirates SkyCargo woos Indian cargo industry

2008-1-25

Mumbai, 24th January, 2008--After a series of high-level appointments and capacity expansion in India, Emirates SkyCargo is sparing no effort to reach out to the key players in the cargo market. The carrier targeted Air Cargo India 2008 (ACI 2008), the biggest event for the logistics operators in the region, to further leverage its efforts to this end.

"India is poised to be one of the main points of growth for our operations this year and our participation at this forum will help establish a global focus on the region. The country is witnessing a gradual shift from traditional forwarding to supply chain management and ACI will facilitate a discussion among the industry leaders on the various challenges of the emerging air cargo market such as its fuel and infrastructure concerns," said Mr Ram Menen, Divisional Senior Vice President, Emirates SkyCargo.

While delivering his address on the theme The Emerging Market-The Road Ahead at ACI 2008, Mr Menen emphasised the need for adequate road feeder services to provide the requisite infrastructural support to the air cargo industry.

"The trade market with the highest growth is likely to be within the Asia Pacific region where its share will go from 24 per cent to 26 per cent by 2011, and India and China will be major players in this growth," he said. In order to sustain the growth spurt India is currently experiencing, Mr Menen urged the industry to be prepared to handle the expected growth.

Mr Prakash Nair, Manager Network Cargo Sales Development, said, "India is an extremely vital market for Emirates SkyCargo and one that is on the brink of an exciting expansion. With the launch of Sao Paulo last year, we now connect India to 99 destinations in 62 countries across six continents via our hub in Dubai."

The significance of Emirates' participation at ACI 2008 can also be drawn from the presence of senior management from the Emirates SkyCargo headquarters in Dubai at the event including Mr Menen and Mr Nair, who were accompanied by Mr Pradeep Kumar, Senior Vice President Revenue Optimisation; Mr Ravishankar Mirle, Regional Manager Commercial; Mr Keki Patel, Cargo Manager India & Nepal; and Mr Orhan Abbas, Emirates Airline Vice President India & Nepal.

Emirates SkyCargo operates three freighter flights to India-two to Mumbai and one to Chennai-using Boeing 747 freighters, as well as offering bellyhold capacity on more than 95 passenger flights in each direction per week. It offers the latest technologies in air cargo containers, ground handling equipment, and highly trained staff on some of the industry's most advanced aircraft.
