  FedEx second quarter earnings down   2012-12-27

FedEx reported revenue of $11.1 billion for its second quarter ended Nov. 30, up 5 percent from $10.6 billion for the same period a year ago. Net income was $438 million, down 12 percent from last year¡¯s $497 million. The company says Hurricane Sandy impacted the quarter¡¯s results due to reduced shipment volumes and incremental operating costs.

On December 20, 2012 ¨C airBaltic has signed a firm purchase agreement to acquire 10 all-new Bombardier CS300 airliners. The Riga, Latvia-based airline also has purchase rights on a further 10 CS300 aircraft. The purchase agreement represents the conversion to firm orders of a Letter of Intent (LOI) to acquire the aircraft announced at the Farnborough Air Show on July 10, 2012.The LOI also included the purchase rights on the 10 additional CS300 aircraft.

Aircraft engine overhaul company, GE Aviation Wales is celebrating 20 years of overhauling engines for British Airways. The company, which is based in Nantgarw, services a range of aircraft engines for the airline, including the CFM56 engine, the GE90 engine and the Rolls-Royce RB211 engine which has been overhauled at the facility for the last two decades.

Emirates announced the selection of Khansaheb Civil Engineering to build the Emirates Engine Overhaul Shop; a 225,000-sq. ft. engine maintenance facility for maintaining the GE90 and GP7200 engines that power Emirates aircraft. Slated to be the most technologically-advanced Engine Overhaul Shop in the region, the facility will service the engines of the Emirates current fleet of nearly 150 Boeing 777s and Airbus 380s, as well as the additional 138 more of these aircraft types on order.
