The Chiwan Container Terminal (CCT) saw its throughput for the whole of 2006 rise 22.5 per cent over the previous year to handle five million TEU.

"We would like to celebrate this news with our business partners, as we would not achieve this milestone without their support," a company statement said.

The strong performance comes during a year when CCT was named one of the top 10 container terminals on mainland China. The operator also received the "Excellent Container Terminal in China for Development Potential" award.
