Hong Kong's Dragonair is boosting its scheduled frequencies for the high summer season and Lunar New Year to meet increased demand.
The airline plans to operate a total of 46 additional flights, including charter flights, over the Lunar New Year holidays, while the summer schedule will raise the frequency to 11 mainland China destinations and two non-mainland cities, effective from March 25 to October 27.
"Demand for both business and leisure travel continues to grow, particularly in the mainland market, and we are responding to that," said CEO Kenny Tang in a company statement.
Among the additional services planned over the Lunar New Year period, Taipei and Kaohsiung will see the biggest increases, with an extra nine services operating to each destination while Kota Kinabalu will have six more flights, Phuket, five; Guilin, six, Kunming, three and Qingdao, two.
Six extra flights have been chartered by travel agents for package tours to Japan. The airline will operate two flights to Kita Kyushu in the northern part of Fukuoka, and four to Hakodate and Kushiro in Hokkaido.
In Dragonair's summer schedule, the number of flights to Kaohsiung will be raised from four a day to five, to Wuhan, from two a week to four while services to Sanya and Kota Kinabalu will be increased to daily.
Other mainland cities seeing greater frequencies are Chengsha, Chengdu, Chongqing, Guilin, Hangzhou, Kunming, Nanjing, Qingtao and Xian.
