China, Vietnam hold forum on economic cooperation

Chinese and Vietnamese businessmen gathered here on Wednesday to seek effective ways of expanding bilateral economic and trade cooperation.Addressing the forum, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung spoke highly of the comprehensive cooperation with China, especially bilateral economic and trade cooperation. China, ASEAN ink contracts worth 600 mln USD

China inked 10 contracts respectively with 10 ASEAN member countries here on Tuesday, with the contract value standing at 600 million U.S. dollars, according to sources with China's Ministry of Commerce. The contracts include a Thai sugar project in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, a textile project by Myanmar in central China's Jiangxi Province, and a business district jointly developed by Brunei and Nanning, said the sources.

China and ASEAN pledge to advance their strategic partnership, which would be a catalyst for dialogue relations between ASEAN and its dialogue partners, says a joint statement issued here Monday. The joint statement, entitled "Towards An Enhanced China-ASEAN Strategic Partnership", was inked by China and ASEAN countries following a China-ASEAN summit commemorating the 15th anniversary of the establishment of China-ASEAN dialogue.

Basic facts about China-ASEAN Expo

At the 7 th China-ASEAN Summit on October 8, 2003, Premier Wen Jiabao of the People’s Republic of China proposed that a China-ASESN Expo be held annually in Nanning, Guangxi, China from the year 2004 onwards. His initiative was welcomed by the ASEAN leaders and was written into the Chairman’s Statement released after the Summit. The Chinese Premier also suggested that a China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit be held simultaneously with the China-ASEAN Expo.
