Chinese vice-premier Wu Yi leaves Washington for home
POSTED: 10:44 a.m. EDT, May 27,2007

Chinese Vice-premier Wu Yi left Friday for home after co-chairing with U.S. Secretary of Treasury Henry Paulson a successful second meeting of the Strategic Economic Dialogue (SED) between the two countries.

The two-day dialogue meeting focused on services, investment and transparency, energy and environment, growth balance and innovation.

More than a dozen of cabinet ministers from each side joined Wu and Paulson in the 2nd SED, a twice-yearly event which had its inaugural session in Beijing in December last year.

Both sides agreed that the 2nd SED enhanced mutual understanding with much consensus and a wide variety of tangible results.

During her stay here, Vice-premier Wu also met U.S. President Bush, Congressional leaders, and members of the Senate and House of Representatives, for in-depth exchanges of views on economic and trade ties and the overall relationship between the two countries.

The SED mechanism, jointly initiated by Chinese President Hu Jintao and U.S. President Bush in September last year, serves as a platform for both sides to discuss long-term, strategic and comprehensive issues in bilateral trade relationship. The third SED will be held in Beijing in December this year.
