The South Korean government said Friday that it plans to boost the export of power generation facilities to African and Central Asian markets.
"Because domestic electricity demand is likely to fall sharply after 2010, the business must seek foreign outlets," Commerce, Industry and Energy Minister Kim Young-ju said at a meeting of local power company executives in Seoul.
The government is planning to redouble its efforts to build industrial and power infrastructure in foreign countries that allow South Korean companies a share in natural resources development, he added.
The government will send fact-finding missions to South Africa and Central Asian countries within the year in a bid to expand into newer markets, Kim added.
South Korea has built power plants in the Philippines, China and Lebanon that can generate a combined 1.5 million kw of electricity so far.
