Southern Guangdong seaport of Zhanjiang saw its container throughput surge 49.27 per cent year on year to 196,500 TEU in the first five months of the year, representing a highest growth among the Beibu Gulf ports, reports Xinhua.
At present, its daily 24-hour maximum cargo handling capacity of container terminals reached 3,300 TEU. Efficiency of single ship reached 89.5 units an hour.

Rebuilt in 1956, it was the first modern port designed and developed after the founding of the People's Republic of China and serves as the headquarters for the People's Liberation Army Navy's South Sea Fleet.
