The recently reconstituted CKYHE alliance of Cosco, "K" Line, Yang Ming, Hanjin and now Evergreen, is now pleading its case before the US Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) just as the P3 and G6 networks did before.
The member lines in the vessel sharing agreement have asked permission to run a discussion agreement allowing them to discuss cooperation on trade lanes to and from the United States, reported American Shipper.
"The parties have been cooperating in various foreign-foreign trades with considerable success. The purpose of this agreement is to authorise the parties to discuss and determine whether and how the synergies and efficiencies that have characterised their foreign-foreign cooperation might be replicated in the US foreign trades," according to a new agreement, No 012280, filed with the Federal Maritime Commission.
"Toward that end, the parties are empowered to discuss a wide range of options regarding possible cooperation, and to exchange information relevant to the evaluation of such options to provide the highest quality, most efficient service(s) in the trade and to optimise the use of each party's assets," the document proposed.
Evergreen first announced that it was joining the other four lines in their existing global alliance in February on trades between Asia and north Europe, and Asia and the Mediterranean.
In April, Evergreen, Cosco and Hanjin filed a vessel-sharing agreement with the FMC saying they would cooperate on services between Asia and the US Atlantic coast, but the new agreement filed this week allows for even wider cooperation among the five carriers.
