Singapore's PSA International has opened its new LYG-PSA Container Terminal (LPCT), at Lianyungang between Qingdao and Shanghai with rail and road links to central and western China, according to Shipping Gazette.
At completion the box terminal will have a capacity of 2.8 million TEU, a 1,700 metre quay length, 16.5 metres alongside and super postpanamax quay cranes spanning 23-rows.
The terminal will support the expanding container trade from the hinterlands neighbouring provinces of Shandong and Jiangsu, China's second and third largest economic provinces.
An integrated intermodal network with established rail connections from Lianyungang Port to China's central and western regions, central Asia and eastern Europe, will also allow LPCT to benefit from growth in these regions as it connects to shipping routes linking China with Europe, the Americas, and the rest of Asia.
The opening ceremony at the Jiangsu Haizhou Bay View Hotel in Lianyungang was attended by over 200 guests including the director general of the city's port authority Wu Yi Qiao.
Said Mr Wu: "We sincerely hope both parties [Lianyungang Port Group and PSA] will enhance the cooperation and grasp this opportunity to increase the market share. Collaboration between these two partners will reap mutual benefits."
Said PSA chief executive Tan Chong Meng: "We are honoured that Lianyungang Port Group has chosen PSA. PSA is committed towards making Lianyungang-PSA Container Terminal a great success to benefit the whole port and its hinterland."
Longshoremen's go-slow at APM Terminals in Port Said diverts 50 ships
PORT SAID's Suez Canal Container Terminal (SCCT) has been hit by a docker slowdown through absenteeism. which has prompted 50 ships to seek other ports to handle their cargo where possible.
Germany's Hapag-Lloyd said that because of congestion at the facility, it now calls at Damietta Terminal on its EUM string both westbound and eastbound, reports American Shipper.
APM Terminals said management and the union agreed on May 2 to a collective bargaining roadmap, but the terminal wants a formal dispute resolution mechanism with Egyptian Manpower Ministry's involvement.
