In March 2014 Konecranes received a major order for eighteen Konecranes Rubber Tired Gantry (RTG) cranes from DP World's Yarimca container terminal in Turkey. The all-electric cable reel RTGs will be delivered in 2015. Konecranes has previously delivered container handling equipment to DP World terminals in Algeria, Egypt, India and the UAE, but this order is the first all-electric RTG order for DP World. The order was booked in the first quarter 2014.
DP World's Yarimca container terminal is being developed by DP World, the world's third largest global container terminal operator. DP World Yarimca will be one of the biggest container terminals in Turkey with an annual capacity of 1.3 million TEUs.
The terminal will be operated by DP World Yarimca Liman İşletmeleri A.Ş, a subsidiary of DP World.
"We are very proud of this order to DP World. It is the result of our innovative design and proven performance around the world, and it will further strengthen our presence in the Middle East and Turkey." says Andreas Falk, Konecranes' Sales Director, Port Cranes, Middle East.
The 16-wheel cable reel RTGs will stack 1-over-5 containers high and 7 plus truck lane wide. They will include a number of safety and productivity enhancing features such as: Active Load Control, which prevents load sway and provides micro-motions in both trolley and gantry directions; Auto-steering with Container Positioning interfaced to the Terminal Operating System; stack collision prevention; a truck guiding system; and a truck trailer anti-lifting system.
The RTGs will be automation-ready, so they can be automated in the future with a minimum of infrastructure work.
