The Shengtai general terminal's three berths of 10,000 tonnes or above in Dongsha operating area of eastern China's port of Zhangjiagang have passed acceptance check, which has raised the total number of berths open to service in the port to 77, reports Xinhua.
With a designed annual handling capacity of 9.1 million tonnes, the Zhangjiagang Dongsha operating area's Shengtai general terminal was invested by Jiangsu Yonggang Group Co Ltd and was completed in last October.
The facility has one 50,000-tonne bulk cargo berth, one 50,000-tonne general berth and one 40,000-tonne break-bulk berth, entailing a total investment of CNY1.38 billion (US$222.45 million).
Operation of the terminal will greatly promote the development of the waterfront industry in eastern Zhangjiagang city, especially the harbour logistics industry in the city, and further reduce the logistics cost for its enterprises.
With a total of 120 berths, the Port of Zhangjiagang has got opening up approval for foreign ships in November 1982.
