In the first nine months of 2010, freight transhipment in maritime transport in Germany rose 5.8% on the same period a year earlier. According to provisional data of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), 207.6 million tonnes of freight were transhipped in German sea ports from January to September. In the corresponding period of 2009, the figure was 196.3 million tonnes. Despite the increase, however, the level recorded before the slump that occurred in 2009 as a result of the worldwide economic and financial crisis was not regained yet. Before the crisis - in the first three quarters of 2008 ¨C sea freight transhipment in German ports had amounted to over 243 million tonnes, which was 17% more than in 2010.
