Three labor disputes between several unions representing portworkers, supervisors and rank-and-file workers, and the management of the Manila North Harbor Port, Inc. (MNHPI) have been resolved with a compromise agreement through conciliation and mediation.
Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz, citing a report by the National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB), said the compromise agreement between the Samahan ng mga Manggagawa sa Pantalan-National Federation of Worker's Union (SMP-NFWU), United Dockhandlers, Inc. Port Supervisors' Union (UDIPSU), Management Association Towards Unity, Optimism and Development (MATUOD) and Alliance of Port/Transport Workers and Porters-North Harbor (APTWP-NH) and the management of United Dockhandlers, Inc. (UDI) augurs well for the Aquino Administration's efforts to promote industrial peace in the nation's key economic sectors.
UDI, a company engaged in arrastre and stevedoring, is represented by Bonifacio Doroy, UDI president, and Michael Romero, MNHPI president and chief executive officer.
With the assistance of NCMB conciliators--Amorsolo V. Aglibut and Edgar G. Aquino ¨C DoLE has facilitated the settlement of the three labor cases at MNHPI, persuading the opposing parties to reach a compromise agreement last 20 December 2010, in time for the Christmas holidays.
The compromise agreement between the parties effected the payment of separation pay of 95 rank-and-file employees worth P8 million and 29 supervisors valued at P4.81 million. |
