The flagships of the Grimaldi Group, the cruise ferries "Cruise Barcelona" and "Cruise Europa", ranked among the top six ferries with state-of-art safety standards in Europe. These are the results of a survey recently conducted by ADAC (Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club), the largest automobile club in Germany and Europe, in cooperation with EuroTest, focused on the safety facilities of 18 passenger ferries operating in the North Sea, the Baltic, the Mediterranean and the Adriatic Sea.
As part of the EuroTest consumer protection programme in which ADAC adheres along with 17 other partner clubs in Europe, last May independent and internationally recognised experts in the maritime sector boarded as normal tourists and checked the condition of the ferries as well as all the safety equipment accessible to passengers. After this incognito test, the experts made themselves known to the Master and inspected the vessels’ documentation and, whenever possible, had fire drills.
The vessels "Cruise Barcelona" and "Cruise Europa", which are respectively deployed by Grimaldi Lines on the route between Civitavecchia and Barcelona and by Minoan Lines (company of the Grimaldi Group) on the Trieste-Ancona-Igoumenitsa-Patras route, received a "Very Good" rating and distinguished themselves from the other ferries for their modern safety, life-saving, fire fighting and fire prevention equipments. The crew was judged professional and well trained to handle emergency situations. In particular, simulated fires in the disco and on the car deck of the "Cruise Barcelona" and "Cruise Europa" were promptly handled by the crew.
"Ensuring safety at sea, thus preventing a loss of lives, is a priority for our Group," declared Emanuele Grimaldi, Managing Director of the Grimaldi Group. "We are very pleased of the positive evaluation of the ADAC experts which recognises the commitment and continuous investments of the Grimaldi Group in staff training and technological advanced equipments".
Built between 2008 and 2010 by Fincantieri, the cruise ferries of the Grimaldi Group have been designed bearing in mind environmental and energy saving requirements. To underline their environmental friendliness, the vessels are "Green Star" certified by the Italian Naval Registry (RINA) which identifies ships designed, build and run to ensure the maximum respect for the environment. The annotations "Clean Air" and "Clean Sea", in fact, confirm that such vessels do not release any liquid or solid residual in sea waters.
